The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) Visa

Visa 186 is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian employer. It allows holders to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely.

There are three streams:
1. Direct Entry Stream
  • For applicants with at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • Requires an occupation listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Applicants must have a positive skills assessment for their nominated occupation.
  • Age limit: Under 45 years, unless exempt.
2. Temporary Residence Transition Stream
  • For workers who have been employed by their sponsoring employer on a 457 or 482 visa for at least two or three years.
  • No skills assessment required.
  • Age limit: Under 45 years, unless exempt.
3. Labour Agreement Stream
  • For workers nominated under a Labour Agreement between the employer and the Australian government.
  • Suitable for industries with specific skill shortages.
  • Age and skill requirements vary based on the agreement.
