The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) Visa

Visa 186 is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers nominated by an Australian employer. It allows holders to live, work, and study in Australia indefinitely.

There are three streams:

1. Direct Entry Stream

For applicants with at least three years of relevant work experience.
Requires an occupation listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
Applicants must have a positive skills assessment for their nominated occupation.
Age limit: Under 45 years, unless exempt.

2. Temporary Residence Transition Stream

For workers who have been employed by their sponsoring employer on a 457 or 482 visa for at least two or three years.
No skills assessment required.
Age limit: Under 45 years, unless exempt.

3. Labour Agreement Stream

For workers nominated under a Labour Agreement between the employer and the Australian government.
Suitable for industries with specific skill shortages.
Age and skill requirements vary based on the agreement.

General Eligibility

Must be nominated by an Australian employer.
Must meet health, character, and English proficiency requirements.
Employer must be an approved sponsor and offer a full-time, permanent position.
